Wine Pairings for Traditional Thanksgiving Dishes

The Star of the Feast: Turkey

Pairing wine with Thanksgiving is easier than it seems. Let’s start with the star of the feast: Turkey! Our New World expression of Chardonnay is a can’t miss pairing with turkey. This complex, medium-bodied wine has good balance with a stone fruit focused finish. And if you can part with a little while cooking, it works as a great liquid for basting your bird.

But we would be remiss if we didn’t have a thoughtful suggestion for red wine fans. So for those wine drinkers who prefer an expressive red, we recommend our Pinot Noir. The wine’s fresh acidity and balanced tannins make it a great choice. It will not only complement the turkey but pairs nicely with a variety of side dishes.

If you want an alternative to Chardonnay, then look no further than our Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is a great choice for your Thanksgiving table because it cleanses the palate between bites of rich gravy-laden turkey and pairs phenomenally with vegetable dishes like green bean casserole, brussels sprouts, and roast asparagus. It’s an elegant wine due to the intensity and balanced acidity. And if you will allow us to boast for a moment . . . it consistently garners 90+ point ratings.

Always a Crowd-Pleaser

At Casillero del Diablo we are known for our Cabernet Sauvignon. So for those guests that prefer a heartier wine, you can be confident that this crowd-pleasing wine will be a hit. It’s medium bodied with silky tannins so it won’t overwhelm the turkey and makes a nice partner with seasonal vegetables. This ruby hued wine reveals lovely bright cherry, blackcurrant and dark plum aromas and flavors with delicate notes of toasted oak. Oh . . . and it also has a storied history of 90 pt accolades.

With a lot of gratitude in our hearts and a little wine in our glass, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
